What is CranioSacral© Therapy?

CranioSacral© Therapy {CST} is a gentle, non-intrusive Osteopathic method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the craniosacral system. This physiological system of the body is comprised of membranes and the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. CST improves the function of the central nervous system by releasing restrictions in it.

CST can be effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with chronic pain and dysfunction as a result of conditions such as Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Migraines, Autism, Scoliosis, Chronic Fatigue, TMJ, Learning Disabilities {ADD, ADHD}, Sleep Disorders as well as the effects of treatments such as Chemotherapy and Radiation. It can also be beneficial to victims of traumatic head and spinal injuries and bring increased quality of life to those experiancing end of life traansition or are in hospice care. For more information on the benefits and history of CST, please click on the Upledger Institute link here or this link to the Cranial Academy.

Description of the treatment process.

Each therapy session takes approximately 45 minutes. It is recommended that one wear loose fitting clothing. An atmosphere is created to facilitate your relaxation with low lighting and gentle music in the background. You are covered with a light blanket as you lie face up on the treatment table. The treatment starts with the Therapist gently holding your head as an evaluation of your cranial pulse is performed. Using approximately five {5} grams of pressure {the weight of a nickel} your cranial sacral system is brought into balance and then slowed to the “still point”. This is a place where your central nervous system is at a lull or point of little agitation. By restoring the CS system to a balanced state, the effects of the conditions named above are reduced or eleminated.

Tandem CST sessions

In February of 2008 Jim Tree-Gilmore teamed up with Tanya Stout of Dimensional Health to add Tandem CST sessions to the available therapies available to his clients. Tanya studied CST through the Upleger Institute and is also Master certified in Neuro-Linguistic Progranning as well as an Advanced Psych-K Therapist. (For more information about Tanya's practice, click on this link to Dimensional Health) They worked for several months harmonizing thier indevidual techniques with exceptional results. These tandem sessions produce the benifits of CST that are more dynamic and bring greater quality of life to the clients in less time and at a lesser overall expense.

The price of a tandem session is twice that of one with a single therapist.

 From a Guardian Oncology patient.

"While the CST therapy has been very effective for my pain and nausea, the Tandem CST sessions have been far greater in their effectivness. Rather than being twice as effective, the tandem therapy is 'Quantumly' more effective."

Professional Recommendations

Dr. Tamzon Feeney, D.O.  “Jim’s work serves as a doorway for entering a state of effortlessness and grace. Through his gentle treatment, patients can be transported to a calm, clear, open space, where they can stop “being” and simply relax into a deep unshakeable contentment of mind, body and spirit.”

Amy Fretz, B.S.N., R.N.  “I have worked with Jim for five years and have seen his ability to gently take patients to a neutral place where deep peace abides. Here, the nervous system has a chance to rest, rejuvenate and move towards healing and wellness. Over the years, Jim has continually demonstrated his ability to guide others toward their inner harmony and to the seat of their own healing.”

An artical about how a near Death Experiance changed my Practice

Near Death Experience (NDE) adds a new dimension to local therapist’s treatments
By Gillian Browne
I met Jim Tree-Gilmore last year when I was in need of some powerful and effective healing modalities to assist me in
going through some intense medical treatments.  At the time I first heard about his practice, Jim was traveling and doing
work in Australia.  So I waited for his return to the Bitterroot Valley, anticipating the “Deep Peace” experience.  Jim
practices CranioSacral Therapy© in Hamilton, and is a team member in the Integrated Therapy program offered by
Dr. Judy Schmidt’s Guardian Oncology clinic in Missoula. I was not disappointed.
I have experienced CranioSacral work in the past—each therapist brings their own unique application of the work.  Jim
is not only well-versed in the system (his parents also practiced these techniques), but he has developed his own unique
adjunct known as “DeepPeace Therapy”.  It was a tantalizing thought—achieving deep peace in the midst of stressful
circumstances.
According to Jim, “CranioSacral Therapy© (CST) is a gentle, non-intrusive osteopathic method of evaluating and
enhancing the function of the Cranial Sacral system.  This system is comprised of membranes and the cerebrospinal fluid
that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. CST improves the function of the central nervous system by
releasing restrictions in it. CST can be effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with chronic pain and
dysfunction as a result of conditions such as Lupus, Fybromyalgia, Migraines, Autism, Scoliosis, Chronic Fatigue, TMJ,
learning disabilities, sleep disorders as well as the side effects of invasive treatments such as chemotherapy. It can also be
beneficial to victims of traumatic head and spinal injuries.”
But wait… what about Deep Peace?  That’s where the near death experience came into play.   A Near Death Experience
(NDE) is defined as when a person is reported clinical dead, but through resuscitation or other medical intervention is
revived back to life. According to Jim, there are well over 10,000 documented cases of NDE’s to date.  (One of the most
detailed and interesting accounts can be read in Dannion Brinkley’s book, Saved by the Light.)
Jim relays his experience:  “In 1999, I was operating a pain management clinic in central Colorado, when I was bitten 5
times on the back of my head by a Black Widow spider in October of that year.  I was born with a compromised immune
system that made me hypersensitive to stings and allergens.  I went into a comatose state and stopped breathing from the
neurotoxins in the spider venom. Fortunately my business partner, Dr. Feeney, found me and was able to resuscitate me.
“While I was clinically dead, I was taken by a “being of light” on an amazing journey to a village located in a very ancient
forest. While there, I received instruction in many things concerning the mysteries of life and death.  The most important
thing I recall was my concern about leaving behind my teenage daughter who I was raising alone—who would take care of
her? The “Being” accompanying me showed me telepathically that everything was absolutely perfect for her, even if I died.
I was overwhelmed with a sense of perfect peace, that there was an “All Powerful Being” orchestrating everything--
everything works out perfectly, even the things that humanly do not appear as ‘good’.
“I became aware that everyone and everything within the village and forest were in a state of peace and oneness. This
peacefulness permeated everything. It was a truly deep peace, eliminating all stress and worry and producing a
contentment I had never know before.  The most profound thing I returned with was this ongoing, unshakable deep peace
within me.
“When the time to return came, a group of eight “Beings” much like the original “Being of light” gathered around, laid me
on the ground encircling me and chanting.  When I awoke, I was lying on my back and Dr. Feeney was administering CPR.
I could still audibly hear the Elders chanting.”
According to Jim, it took several months to recover from the effects of the neurotoxins in his body. He suffered partial
paralysis, severe joint pain, skin reactions, chronic fatigue, as well as short term memory loss.  After fully recovering from
all of these symptoms, he began his CST practice full time again, but now, he states, with a deep empathy for the suffering
his patients experience.
Jim reflects that he began to notice that when he gave a treatment to someone, they often fell asleep and/or went into a
deep state of relaxation.  As he experimented with this new dimension in his treatments, he developed what he now calls
“DeepPeace Therapy.”©
Having experienced this therapy first-hand, I can attest to a few snores… and breathing so slowly I almost had to remind
myself to take the next breath.  The thought occurred to me that my brain was going into Delta wave activity—which is the
slowest and most relaxed brainwave frequency—usually attained in dreamless sleep.
Jim concludes:  “We find ourselves in a time of medical miracles where there are several cases of those who would
normally have passed over are being resuscitated, often bringing with them a wonderful gift. Perhaps this is all part of a
grand plan.  The important thing is that these “seeds” of deep peace are being planted in people, not only to enhance their
personal lives, but hopefully to help shift the human experience from fear and suspicion to one of peace and acceptance.
If enough people allow these seeds of deep peace to take root and grow within them, then the way we relate to others can
become much more harmonious and tolerant. As go the people so goes society.”
Jim is currently developing a curriculum to teach his deep peace technique to other health care practitioners, regardless of
their type of practice.

Biographical Information

Jim received his training in CranioSacral© Therapy from the Upledger Institute and studied the therapeutic techniques of Cranial Osteopathy and cellular memory release for eight years with the internationally known Osteopath, Dr. Tamzon Feeney. He was a partner with Dr. Feeney in opening a clinic in central Colorado, and then moved his practice to northwest Montana in September of 2001. Jim has also worked with Dr. Norma Gilmore, Ed.D. in ground breaking treatment of children with learning disabilities. Jim has gone beyond traditional CranioSacral work to develop "Deep Peace Therapy", a much deeper level of "nuro-relaxation", a way to quiet the nervous system as well as the concious mind, thus allowing one to connect with their core being in an uninterrupted way. In mid 2007, Jim joined the growing team of integrative practicioners at the Gaurdian Oncology and Wellness Clinic in Missoula Montana to bring Dr. Judy Schmidts vision of providing here patients with the broadest base of quality health care. Jim offers CST sessions out of the clinic there as well as his office in Hamilton, Montana. Jim offers the Tandem CST sessions together with Tanya Stout in these locations as well as Tanya's office located in Florance Montana.

Jim is a member of the International Association of Health Practitioners.

Jim is the author of the book, “The Way of the Sacred Pipe” and is a spiritual advisor for a Federally recognized Native American church, the "Keepers of the Sacred Tradition of Pipemakers" and sits on the Advisory Board for the E. T. Seton Institute. (Black Wolf)
